Chocolate … will there be anyone who doesn’t love this sweet queen? Despite the love we have for it, it is often associated with empty calories and sugar, which is killer for our health. However, little is said about the sweet secrets hidden in a chocolate bar that have a positive effect on our body. However, when you enjoy the sweetness of a dark tablet, remember that this power is hidden primarily in natural chocolate, made of high-quality ingredients, without unnecessary and harmful additives.

Natural chocolate nutrients

Considering the different types of chocolate, in terms of properties and composition, the bitter one definitely wins. Its nutrients are as follows:

  • Macronutrients. In 100g of dark chocolate, 99% contains approximately: 530kcal, 49g of fat, 13g of protein, 8g of carbohydrates (including 6g of fiber). Therefore, it is classified as a high-calorie product, but it contains relatively little sugar. It is possible that some of the fats in it help protect against breast cancer.
  • Glycemic index. Dark chocolate has a relatively low glycemic index (20), so it is often recommended for people suffering from diabetes.
  • Cholesterol. Compared to the milk one – the bitter one provides much less of it. 100g of milk chocolate generates 10mg of cholesterol, while the same amount of dark chocolate only 1mg.

  • Minerals. A natural chocolate bar contains many minerals necessary for the proper functioning of the body, such as magnesium, potassium, calcium and copper.

The effect of natural chocolate on the body

Eating chocolate stimulates the secretion of the so-called happiness hormones – endorphins, which relieve pain and improve mood; this is probably the sweetest of the secrets these dark tablets hold! In addition, consuming chocolate in an optimal amount of about 100g per week may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease (according to studies by Yongcheng Ren et al., Chocolate consumption and risk of cardiovascular diseases: a meta-analysis of prospective studies, “Heart”, 2018). However, it should be remembered that in order for the sweet secrets of chocolate to turn out to be a treasure for us, the bar we choose must not contain unnecessary additives – it is best to opt for natural chocolates.
