It is difficult to find a person who would not like chocolate. However, very often you can meet opinions that it should be limited because it makes you fat and contributes to the deterioration of health. How is it really?
At the beginning it is worth mentioning that not every sweetness referred to as “chocolate” is actually chocolate. We are talking about the so-called white chocolate, which is so called because of the same shape, packaging or application as traditional chocolate. However, it does not contain cocoa, which is the main ingredient of real chocolate. White chocolate is therefore a confectionery product consisting of cocoa butter, sugar and powdered milk. For this reason, the pro-health properties, unfortunately, do not apply to her.
The healthiest type of chocolate is, of course, dark chocolate. The more cocoa content, the better. However, not everyone will like chocolate with 80%, 85% or 99% cocoa due to its very distinct taste. The optimal solution is versions with 65% or 70% cocoa content.

It is an excellent source of minerals. This mainly applies to magnesium and iron, but also potassium and phosphorus. Thanks to this, it improves the functioning of the circulatory system, has a positive effect on thought processes and muscle functioning.
Contains antioxidants. Cocoa is a rich source of polyphenols and flavonoids, which, thanks to their antioxidant properties, help fight free radicals in the body and prevent carcinogenic and inflammatory processes.
Lowers the desire to eat sweets. Yes, it may seem paradoxical, but it is. Due to the low glycemic index, chocolate stabilizes blood glucose levels, thanks to which there are no fluctuations in its level and the appetite for sweet foods is reduced.
It improves the mood. Chocolate contains tryptophan, an amino acid that is a precursor of serotonin, a neurotransmitter whose role is mainly associated with the improvement of well-being. Serotonin is sometimes called the “happiness hormone”.
Provides energy. Chocolate is a concentrated source of energy, it contains both fats and carbohydrates, thanks to which it provides the body with the calories necessary for its proper functioning.
