Chocolate is a sweet delicacy known and loved all over the world. Of course, the healthiest is bitter chocolate rich in microelements and alkaloids. Natural chocolate included in the diet in moderate amounts will provide the energy necessary for daily functioning and will intensify the secretion of so-called happiness hormones that condition well-being.
Microelements contained in chocolate
The most valuable ingredient in cocoa is magnesium, and in 100 g of chocolate you will find approx. 150-220 mg of this ingredient. It is worth noting that magnesium is involved, among others in the conduction of nerve impulses, it affects bone mineralization and regulates blood pressure. It is therefore a particularly important element for the proper functioning of the cardiovascular and nervous system. Dark organic chocolate is also a source of iron, and its content in 100 g of product is about 8-12 mg per 100 g of product. Iron is a component of hemoglobin contained in red blood cells, so its deficiency results in anemia. This element is responsible for the transport of oxygen to the cells. Chocolate also contains large amounts of phosphorus, potassium and zinc. Phosphorus is primarily found in teeth and bones. Potassium, on the other hand, enables muscle contraction and maintains electrolyte balance in the body. In turn, zinc affects the health of the skin and its products and supports metabolism. It is also worth adding that vitamin B3 contained in chocolate allows the synthesis of many hormones and regulates the level of cholesterol in the blood.

As for macroelements, it is worth mentioning that chocolate is a source of carbohydrates that provide the energy necessary for the proper functioning of the muscles and nervous system. It also contains a lot of fat, which is a building component of tissues and some hormones. However, the influence of chocolate on the human body results from the presence of not only macro- and microelements in its composition. In this case, it is also worth paying attention to theobromine, which has a positive effect on blood cholesterol, intensively stimulates the nervous system and can significantly lower blood pressure. Also present in chocolate is phenylethylamine, a hormone from the endorphin group that improves mood and increases pain resistance.
It is easy to see that the impact of chocolate on human health is very versatile. It turns out that in addition to taste, it also contains many valuable nutrients.
